Project Introduction: The Hunyuan Pumped Storage Hydropower Station is planned to be located in the Zhongmu Gully, a tributary of Chongzhi Gully on the right bank of Dayu River. The lower reservoir is situated 0.5 kilometers downstream of Hongling Village, Guan'er Township, on the Dayu River. The key components of the power station include the upper reservoir, waterway system, underground powerhouse and its ancillary buildings, and the lower reservoir. The initial installed capacity of the power station is proposed to be 1.2 million kW. The power station is advantageously positioned near the load center of northern Shanxi, with convenient external transportation, making it an ideal location for a pumped storage hydropower station in northern Shanxi Province. The static investment budget for the project is 7 billion yuan, with a total dynamic investment of 8.8 billion yuan. Upon completion, it will generate 2.01 billion kWh of electricity annually. In 2013, the National Energy Administration approved the planning for this site, and in the same year, State Grid Xinyuan Holdings Co., Ltd. conducted a tender for the pre-feasibility study of the site.
